Juvenile Justice Data Books (formerly called annual reports) give a look into how the juvenile justice system works in Santa Clara County. Starting in 2021, these reports have been made simpler, focusing on important data. The Data Book includes information on arrests, custody numbers, electronic monitoring, community release programs, risk assessments, and special data on girls and juveniles in South County and San Jose.
The Adult Probation Data Books give a look into how the adults in the justice system in Santa Clara County are served by the Probation Department. Starting in 2023, these reports are provided in a simple to use format that provides information on clients by supervision unit, race, ethnicity, gender, age, offenses, risk level, and service needs. There are also sections related to Assembly Bill 109, Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence, and sentencing alternatives.
Along with the Data Books, Santa Clara County Probation Department is creating data dashboards to help make real-time data easier to access for the public.
The juvenile justice annual reports provide a broader look with historic data, showing a snapshot of programs or service groups. Dashboards, on the other hand, update in real time, tracking things like daily population in Juvenile Hall or increases in certain crimes. Both tools are helpful and work together: just like checking the rear-view mirror while driving, both past and present views are important.
